Mangeshi Temple

A beautiful shrine honoring Lord Shiva is called the Shri Mangeshi Temple. It is included in the characteristic Goan Hindu temple architectural style and is regarded as the most significant temple in Goa. Despite being modest and magnificent, it stands out thanks to its welcome entryway and white towers.

According to legend, Lord Brahma himself dedicated the Mangesh Linga on the mountain of Mangireesh on the banks of the Bhagirathi River, from where the Saraswat Brahmins transported it to Trihotrapuri in Bihar. They transported the linga to Gomantaka, where they made their home in Mathagrama, now known as Madgaon. There, they built the most revered temple in the area, dedicated to Mangesh, on the banks of what is now known as the Zuari or Gomati rivers. In this location, Lord Mangesh is worshipped in the form of a Shiva Linga.

A prominent Nandi Bull, regarded as Shiva's vehicle, is located in the Mangesh temple. The temple complex comprises a room for marriages and pilgrims, as well as a large courtyard that is surrounded by the actual temple. A stunning water tank, which is said to be the temple's earliest component, is another feature.

The Sabha Griha is a large room that can fit more than 500 people. Chandeliers from the nineteenth century are used in the decor. There are images of Lord Shiva in various poses. There are rumors that the followers gather here twice daily to reflect and seek the Lord's blessings.

The devotees can also enjoy musical instruments in this room while listening to Kirthana and Hari Katha, after which they have their first glimpse of the Lord. The entrance to the Garbha Griha is through the center of the Sabha Griha, which is always maintained open.

As a result, the devotee can see the Lord even from the entrance. The garbhgriha of the stunning temple is home to Mangesh's picture. Ganesha, the elephant god of Prosperity and Wisdom, and Parvati, consort of Shiva, Destroyer of the Universe, both have shrines there.
